Breitling has released a new edition of its Colts, but in a completely redesigned package. Unlike most products from the Swiss manufacturer, all new Colts (and Colt 44) are not made with a mechanical, but with quartz movements. However, these watches are not constructed as the usual quartz models. They include Breitling’s trademark SuperQuartz movements that are significantly more precise. Just like quartz watches from Bulova Precisionist series, they possess mechanisms that are accurate to 10 seconds a year. This is clearly better than most quartz-driven timepieces that can be accurate to 15 seconds a month and enough to get the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute) chronometer certification which is much stricter for quartz models than for mechanical watches.
Breitling Colt 44 is a men’s model with these outstanding characteristics which are enabled with thermocompensated Breitling 74 caliber. This watch tends to be elegant and sporty, yet sturdy and tough at the same time. As its name suggests, Colt 44 has a polished stainless steel case with the diameter of 44 mm and the thickness of 14 mm.
Water Resistance to 500 Meters
It has a steel bezel with totally fresh design that was never used on models made by this brand. It is a unidirectional ratcheted bezel with engraved numerals. This sort of feature is really befitting for diving which is also backed with product’s impressive ability to function even at 500 meters (1,650 feet) under the surface. Another feature, universally used in diving watches and in this particular timepiece too, is the inclusion of EOL (end of life) indication that informs its wearer that the battery is almost empty. Speaking of its battery, this model has a lithium battery which is expected to function up to eight years.
Besides, Breitling Colt 44 has a screw-locked crown with two gaskets. As usual for watches from the manufacturer, the face is protected with a quality sapphire crystal with antireflective treatment on both sides. The case of the watch weighs 102.8 grams. The dial has a date aperture at the three o’clock position. If you decided to buy this watch, it will still be necessary to choose among different kinds of bracelets and dials. Available options for straps are a Diver Pro made of rubber (blue or black), a Professional bracelet constructed of steel and a brown leather band with contrast stitching. The watch can be bought with black, volcano black, blue or stratus silver dial.
What do you first think of when you hear the word ˝Colt˝? I can bet that 90% of you people, including me, first think of the gun. That is a powerful thing, and people talk about it with a respect. This Breitling has the same features like the gun. It`s powerful, reliable, it looks nice, it carries the name of the famous brand and people talk about it with a respect.
The model with a brown leather is the best from this collection. I like to wear the watches often, but I prefer the steel bracelets more than leather straps. And I must be honest about this watch, I don`t like it, the design is not so good and it doesn`t have many features. But this model with a brown leather strap looks amazing.
This Breitling is not the biggest pride of this brand. They have a lot better watches than this one. In my opinion, Breitling Chrono-Matic QP Limited Edition Watch is much better than this model.
