Breitling has just released a brand new version from its iconic Chronomat collection which was started exactly 30 years ago. The latest pilot’s chronograph from the collection is named Chronomat 44 Raven. As it can be deduced from its name, the most of the watch is black due to the added carbon-based coating. The blackness of its case and dial is underlined with contrasting orange accents which enable good legibility and an uncommon dynamic appearance. Breitling Chronomat 44 raven runs on Breitling’s good old Caliber B 01, the first ever in-house movement of the brand.

The Same Color Scheme throughout the Timepiece

There are no many surprises when it comes to the latest novelty by the watchmaker from Grenchen. It could be said that it is mainly characterized with its appearance, namely its black and orange theme. The timepiece is distinguished with carbon treatment which blackens its stainless steel casing with a satin brushed finish. The round housing is with the diameter of 44 mm and possesses not so flat thickness of 16.96 mm. The construction of the watch also includes a screw-locked crown, a cambered sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides and a transparent case-back. As for the ratcheted bezel of the timekeeper, it is made in the same color as the case, it can be turned in both directions and it features rubber inlayed numerals in orange color. Chronomat Raven 44 has a pretty solid waterproofness of 200 meters, while the total weight of the watch (sans the wristlet) measures to exactly 128.6 grams.

The matching choice of colors is visible on the watch’s face. Encircled with a tachymetric scale in orange, the dial is made in the color which the manufacturer calls Onyx black. It features a black square in different finish than the rest of the face, while parts of its three chrono counters include vertical striping. Whereas the central stopwatch seconds hand and the rest of the stopwatch counters are orange so they can be easily distinguished, hour and minute hands are, as well as its hour markers, made with a luminescent coating. There is also a date aperture, placed between four and five o’clock positions.

In a true spirit of the Chronomat series, the novel watch runs on the brand’s first proprietary caliber B 01. This is not a surprise since the Chronomat model from 2002 was actually the piece which premiered the self-winding mechanical column-wheel chronograph caliber. The 47 jeweled movement is made with the frequency of 28,800 vph and the power reserve of over 70 hours. In this occasion, its rotor which can be seen from the rear side of the housing is made in the overall theme of the edition. It has a black treatment and accents in orange shade.

The novel Chronomat is coupled with a black rubber strap. There are two available specific types of wristlets that are available with the model. These are Ocean Racer III with protruded name of the brand and Diver Pro which features round perforations. Regardless of the selected type of the wristlet, the buckle is a push-button folding clasp.
