One of Breitling’s top models in 2011 is the special series of the Chronomat 01, dedicated to one of the company’s ambassadors – Herbert Nitsch, also known as the “Flying Fish”. Australian born Nitsch is the only freediver who managed to reach the amazing depth of 700 feet. The Chronomat 44 “Flying Fish” is supposed to match such a feat. Therefore, Breitling equipped this ¼th of a second chronograph with an in-house Caliber B01. Being a watch that commemorates the diving record, the Swiss watch-maker also insured that it can withstand water pressure to amazing 500 meters (1,650 feet).
The world’s greatest freediver, Herbert Nitsch, has so far managed to achieve no less than 31 official diving world records. Probably the most impressive feat by Nitsch is from June 2007 when he descended to mindboggling 214 m and beat the previous record that he had set the year before. Nitsch also works as a pilot for Tyrolean Airways (hence the nickname “Flying fish”) and thus, he was a perfect candidate to become the Breitling’s ambassador, considering the company’s aviation background.
The Breitling Caliber 01 is a selfwinding, mechanical chronograph movement with 28,800 vibrations per hour. The automatic movement has 47 jewels and features a power reserve of at least 70 hours. The movement is fitted into a round and brushed stainless steel case with an exclusive satin polish. As the name of this chronograph suggests, the diameter of the case is 44 millimeters. It also possesses cambered sapphire glass that is glareproofed on both sides. Breitling also included a ratcheted unidirectional bezel.
Ocean Racer or Diver Pro II Straps
The charming dial of the Breitling Chronomat 44“Flying Fish” Watch is in black onyx color. The dial also includes luminous hands and hour markers, a tachymeter scale on its outer edge, as well as three chrono sub dials. Besides, there is a date aperture between the four and the five o’clock positions, and a red sweeping second hand with a neat counterweight. The inscriptions on the black analog dial confirm that this watch is Swiss made and available to be submerged to incredible 500 meters. Its ability to withstand pressure is no surprise, considering that it is dedicated to the world’s greatest freediver.
This product by Breitling Watches is available with blue or black Ocean Racer or Diver Pro II straps (both types are made of rubber). The approximate price of the watch is somewhere between $8,750 and $9,750.
I already see this watch on my hand! It has a really excellent design! I love Breitling’s models because they have good quality and great features. This chronograph look very sexy! My choise is Breitling chronomat 44 “flying fish” Watch.
This is definitely the watch of my dreams but it is very expensive. Powerful design, perfect water resistance, useful features, Swiss watch…. these are just some reasons that this is my favorite Chronograph. In any case, this is my choice!
I agree with Jordan but I think this watch isn’t expensive because it has excellent characteristics and about its design speaks pictures..This is a really lovely piece.
Beautiful looks, great movement, water resistance and incredible innovative design are the best features that adorn this watch. The price is not so acceptable, but with a lot of working, anyone can afford this watch.
I don`t know about you Marc, but I cannot afford this watch to myself right now, although I have a nice job. Maybe in a few months, I will collect enough money for this Breittling watch.
I know that Mike, I have a good job but I can`t buy this watch either. I just said that with a job which gives to you an extra, extra cash, you can buy it then.
This model has a very interesting rubber strap. In my opinion, it would be good if there is a model with stainless steel, but never mind, it looks cool anyway.
This watch is too expensive! Nearly $9000 for this watch?! That is madness!
Dean, you over react. It is a good price for this quality. Go and buy some cheep watch for $20 and you will see that the price is good for this dose of quality that Breitling has!
I purchased this watch 4 months ago and it has been back for service already for running to fast. Now after having it back for only a couple weeks it stops while wearing it throughout the day. Very frustrating, this is my 7th Breitling and is the only one I have had any issues with. I have had several issues over the years with several of my Rolex pieces, but serviced yearly, run like a top. I feel I may have just gotten a bad one. The dealer I purchase all my watches from is looking to replace the watch for me, hopefully the replacement will be without issue.
