The large-sized limited edition of Breitling Chrono-Matic QP is a watch manufactured as the celebration of the brand’s tradition of watchmaking innovation. Breitling was the first manufacturer that constructed a self-winding chronograph movement, back in 1969. This breakthrough enabled the launch of Chrono-Matic watches that would soon earn much praise. The new timepieces from the Chrono-Matic lineage pay homage to the era when these watches emerged with a number of details. First of all, the tribute is visible with the sheer size of new timepieces (their cases are 49 mm wide). Other than that, there are retro details such as strained lines, rectilinear hands, as well as the design of indicators. There is also the old brand logo, used until the seventies.
The Chrono-Matic QP Limited Edition perfectly exemplifies the nod to the traditional values of the iconic series. The timepiece is equipped with the elaborate Caliber Breitling 29 chronometer-certified mechanical movement (based on the ETA 2892-A2) that consists of about 500 components. As expected, it is a self-winding chrono mechanism (It is a 1/4th second chronograph with 30 minutes and 12 hours counters). The automatic movement has 38 jewels and it runs at the frequency of 28,800 vph. It has a power reserve of 42 hours and, more importantly, a perpetual calendar complication which includes not only a date, a day, a week, a month and a season, but also moon phases.
Black with Rubber or Bronze with Leather
The mechanism is set in a fine oversized 18K red gold case (with the diameter of 49 mm and the thickness of 14.7 mm). Unfortunately, the case-back is not transparent. However, cambered sapphire crystals with glareproof treatments on both sides are included as the protectors of the watch’s face. Since the series has originally derived from the Navitimer series, it is not a surprise that Breitling included the rotating bezel with the slide rule, which is typical for timepieces used by aviators. The bezel is constructed from rubber-molded steel. It is also important to note that the watch is water proof to 30 meters.
Breitling Chrono-Matic Limited Edition consists of only 125 pieces. There are two versions of the watch. The first one has a black dial and the Ocean Racer rubber strap that fastens with a pushbutton folding clasp. The other variation is constructed with the Panamerican bronze dial and paired with a croco strap with the contrast stitching. The leather strap fastens with the appropriate 18K red gold tang-type buckle that matches the watch’s case. The weight of the watch without the strap is 174.7 grams.
Like I said in one of my previous comments this is one of the best models that Breitling manufactures can offer to any potential buyer. It is really amazing. I think that these features that this watch has are very useful and appealing. Also the design is very nice. This watch is a true refreshment for me and my taste.
Wow, I have never seen a watch with a bronze case. It looks very interesting in combination with brown leather. The other model looks fine, too. Does anybody know how much it costs?
Lewis, I`m not sure that this watch is in stock because it was published on the website a few days ago.
