Like all of the exclusive timekeepers included in the Breitling for Bentley series, the new Barnato 42 timekeeper draws its inspiration from the famous cars made by the renowned British manufacturer. More precise, this model is dedicated to the famous “Bentley boys”, a group of wealthy motor aficionados with inclination to Bentley racing automobiles. The famous team of “Bentley boys”, and its most distinguished member, Woolf Barnato, dominated the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in the 1920s, and triumphed in it several consecutive times. The new watch comes specially as a tribute to these famous race drivers and tends to replicate some of the distinct details from their vehicles. Prior to Barnato 42, Breitling for Bentley included one more piece with the same inspiration. Unlike this large model, the new one is restricted to a more compact package, and features the diameter of 42 mm.
The watch with the racing inspiration uses some of the motifs that are customary to Bentley cars, and for this reason, it incorporates the components such a knurled bezel, as well as chrono counters with red rims. The design of the dial is clear and simple as much as possible, without any unnecessary details. The face includes three chrono subsidiary dials, luminescent hands, large hour markers, and sports a single Arabic numeral for the twelve o’clock place. The red accents on the dial are paired with a red second hand that features a silver colored counterweight in the shape of the brand’s logo. The simple, yet legible and classy dial is guarded with a high-quality cambered sapphire glass that features glare-proof treatment on both of its sides, while the only available dial color is silver storm.
As it is quite clear form the name of the timepiece, its stainless steel housing has a mid-sized diameter of 42 mm. The chronograph incorporates a screw-locked crown and is water proof to 100 meters. Inside the steel housing, there is the watch’s beating heart, a self-winding mechanical chronometer Breitling B41 (base movement ETA 2892-A2) with the accuracy of 1/4th of a second, and a COSC chronometer certificate. The high-frequency caliber incorporates 38 jewels to its construction and also offers a date indication which is located at the four o’clock position. Its power reserve lasts for around 42 hours.
It is possible to pair the new compact version of Breitling for Bentley Barnato with the different types of attachments. Barnato 42 can be coupled with three types of leather straps (Barenia, crocodille and Bentley), a 5-row Speed stainless steel bracelet, or with a Bentley rubber strap which is molded into an angle in order to be more comfortable.
