For this year’s Baselworld, Blancpain has prepared several novelties. One of the brand’s highlights is the Blancpain L-evolution Tourbillon Carrousel Watch that boasts a futuristic design of dial and a matching case design.

The highly complicated piece has an openwork movement. The tourbillon which is located at the 11 o’clock position and the carrousel which is placed at the 5 o’clock position are both individually powered by their own barrels, and each are visible within the asymmetrical dial. If you look closer, you will see a miniature Blancpain lyre logo at the center of the carrousel.

The fact that they have their own barrels allows a harmonious vertical placement of the two within the mechanism. In order to achieve the simultaneous winding of the barrels via a single crown, some very clever technical innovations were required. The movement is tooled with two differentials, one designed to combine the information from the two complications to average the two running rates, and the second one to make the power reserve indication which is shown at the back of the watch.
The hour and minute hands are skeletonized to provide an unobstructed view at the new caliber called 2322V2. This mechanism is actually a development of the Caliber 2322 which has been used in the original Tourbillon Carrousel. The hand wound movement runs in 70 jewels and it is capable to store enough power to keep the watch ticking for approximately 168 hours. The impeccable mechanism consists of 350 individual parts.

As I have mentioned at the beginning, the movement is highly skeletonized. The bridges and the base plate have received an NAC coating to give them a dark gray color for more futuristic look. The watch case is shielded on both sides with sapphire crystals, and when you flip the watch over, you can also see the cosmetic geared ring outlining the mechanism.
The geometric dial also comprises Arabic numerals at the quarter hours (12, 3, 6 and 9), which reminds of something that you would find on a sci-fi movie poster and which further enhances its futuristic look.

Blancpain L-evolution Tourbillon Carrousel Watch (ref. 92322-34B39-55B) is larger that its predecessor with the diameter of 47.4mm. The innovative case is crafted from platinum and it has many hard angles. Its top and bottom extend out towards the integrated lugs.
The new L-evolution Tourbillon Carrousel is teamed with an integrated black alligator strap and it is one of the most sportiest timepieces unveiled at Baselworld 2015. This newcomer is produced in the limited quantity of only 50 pieces.
