Every year the Swiss luxury watchmaker enriches its Clifton collection with an exclusive piece. This time, the manufacturer brings one of the most exclusive complications – perpetual calendar – to its famous range.
Baume & Mercier Clifton Perpetual Calendar is housed in an elegant 18-karat red gold case measuring 42mm in diameter and 11.20mm in thickness. We are sure that the Swiss watchmaker will also offer a more affordable stainless steel variant at a later time.
The polished and satin-finished case nicely rounds a slightly domed silver opaline dial that boasts the typical perpetual calendars layout with four counters. A month and leap year sub-dial is set on the top of the dial at the 12 o’clock position, while conversely, at the 6 o’clock position, there is a moon phases and continuous seconds counter. A date sub-dial is situated at the 3 o’clock position, while the information about the exact day of the week is available at the 9 o’clock position.
Hours, minutes and seconds hands, as well as markers and Arabic numerals are all made of gold, while the indications of month, date and day are displayed with blued hands.
The beating heart of the latest member of the Clifton family is the extra-flat Vaucher caliber 5401 which is integrated by a Dubois-Depraz 5100 perpetual calendar module added to keep track of the celestial mechanics. The calendar is endowed with a mechanical memory for four years.
The high-grade movement is relatively slim thanks to the adoption of a micro-rotor and it measures only 2.60mm in thickness and 30mm in diameter. The mechanism is built on 29 jewels and it operates at the semi-rapid frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz). It is capable to store enough energy to keep the watch working for 2 days. The movement finishes include Côtes de Genève on the bridges, blued steel screws and stippling on the bottom plate. Oscillating weight is adorned with a snailed decor and Baume & Mercier’s logo – Phi symbol. A sapphire case-back offers a look at the exceptionally finished movement.
The new Clifton Perpetual Calendar (ref. M0A10306) is mounted on the black alligator leather strap with a red gold deployment clasp. The water resistance is assured down to 50 meters (approximately 165 feet).
The new Clifton will have the price of approximately 20,800 Swiss francs (about $21,000). It is expected to be in stores in late spring of 2017.
