As I have already said when I reviewed Baume & Mercier novelties at SIHH 2013, the most interesting newcomer this year is the Clifton Complete Calendar Moonphase Watch. This model shows the date, the day and the month, as well as the moon phases. The Swiss manufacturer offered two versions of the watch: the first variant with a blue, sun satin-finished dial (the referent number is 10057) and the second one with a silver, satin-finished dial (the reference is 10055).
This watch represents the archetype of urban timepieces from the 1950s, which is housed in a modern polished and satin-finished stainless steel case with a sportier and larger diameter of 43mm. It is the largest model in the new Clifton Collection. The other Clifton models come with diameters between 39mm and 41mm.
The round case of the Clifton Complete Calendar comes with an average thickness of 12.25mm. Its case is protected with scratch-resistant and glare-proof sapphire crystals on both sides and it is water resistant up to 50 meters (circa 165 feet).
The Most Complicated Watch of the Clifton Collection
The elegant dial of the Baume & Mercier Clifton Complete Calendar Moonphase provides information about the date, the day and the month, as well as the moon phase information.
The exact day and month are displayed through apertures situated on the upper part of the dial, at the 12 o’clock position, while the moon phase display is located on the opposite side, at the 6 o’clock position. The even hours are represented with either gilt or silver-colored Arabic numerals, whilst the odd hours are represented with indexes.
Besides the usual hour, minute and seconds hands, the watch features a date hand. This hand has a red tip. Depending on a model, either a silver or a blue date scale rounds the dial surface.
The new Baume & Mercier Clifton Complete Calendar Moonphase Watch is equipped with the Swiss-made Dubois Dépraz 9000 mechanical movement. The self-winding mechanism provides no less than 42 hours of power reserve and it has the frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz).
The case back of the watch has been opened up to allow all watch aficionados to observe the components of its movement and to enjoy the inner beauty of the new Clifton model.
The new Clifton Complete Calendar Moonphase comes with a black alligator strap for a comfortable fit. The leather strap ends with a triple adjustable folding clasp, with security push-pieces. This newcomer can be purchased for $4,900 and you just have to choose the right model to suit your taste.
