The Shelby Cobra has an important place in the U.S. just like the Porsche 911 in Germany or the Ferrari 250 GTO in Italy, for instance. Last month, the iconic car model – CSX 2000 – was sold for $13.75 million including auction fees at the largest collector car auction house in the world, RM Sotheby’s, thus becoming the most expensive American car sold at an auction. In order to honor the most important modern American sports car, Baume & Mercier unveiled the Capeland Shelby Cobra CSX 2000 unique piece.

The very first Shelby Cobra is built in 1962 by the American motor sports genius, Carroll Shelby. The historic model served as the development prototype for what would become the Shelby Empire.
The car arrived in the U.S. as an engine-less AC Ace, and Shelby installed a 260 cubic inch Ford V8 within hours of picking it up. Once the vehicle was completed, it was sent to magazines for instrumented testing. There is one quite interesting media-savvy detail about this legendary car model. Namely, the CSX 2000 was repainted a different color for each test to trick journalists into thinking Shelby had several cars.
