At the Baselworld 2017, Girard-Perregaux launched a new, modern variant of its Constant Escapement L.M. Watch that won the prestigious “Aiguille d’Or” award in the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève as the best watch in 2013. The Constant Escapement was introduced in 2008 and it was a great watchmaking breakthrough with a frame integrating a silicon blade thinner than a human hair. It took five years of researching and developing before the Swiss manufacturer launched its first model equipped with the impeccable mechanism that ensures the watch will operate at a constant rate no matter how much energy is available.

The new Girard-Perregaux Constant Escapement L.M. timepiece boasts a more technical, contemporary design than its predecessor. The mechanism which pulls the amazing properties of silicon provides the balance wheel with constant force that never declines, no matter how much power remains in the barrels.

Protected by four invention patents, the new Constant Escapement L.M. 2017 boasts a butterfly-wing frame set between the lever and the balance spring. This intermediate device represents a support to a buckled-blade which is just 14 microns thick. To get perspective what we are talking about, I will just emphasize that it is six times finer than a human hair.

Another significant feature of the new Constant Escapement L.M. watch, powered by the mechanical manually-wound movement, is its outstanding power reserve of six days. The impeccable movement consists of 280 individual parts.

The linear power reserve display is situated at the 9 o’clock position, whilst hours and minutes are read off on an offset sub-dial placed at the 12 o’clock position. In order to provide an unobstructed view of the mechanism, only the seconds hand stays centrally fitted.
