The Swiss watchmaking brand Ulysse Nardin has announced its several releases set for Baselworld 2015. One of them is dedicated to the Carthaginian military commander, Hannibal, which is considered as one of the greatest military leaders ever.

Ulysse Nardin Minute Repeater Hannibal Watch
In his quest to conquer Rome during the Second Punic War (B.C. 218-216), which is also known as The Hannibalic War, Hannibal marched an army, which included elephants, across the Pyrenees and Alps to take victory in Italy. This journey in movement and sound is presented on the new Ulysse Nardin Hannibal Minute Repeater limited edition timepiece which will be officially presented this spring at Baselworld watch fair.
The exceptional watch is limited to only 30 pieces, each crafted from precious platinum and encrusted with a granite stone from the Alps. The elegant, round case measures 44mm in diameter. The platinum is very resonant metal for use in minute repeaters.

Ulysse Nardin Minute Repeater Hannibal Watch Dial Detail
The upper part of the dial reveals the moving figurines, also known as jaquemarts. Hannibal is depicted on his horse with the scenes of him in fighting stance, whilst one of his elephants and regiment of soldiers appear by his side. The figurines, as well as the mountains in the background, and the surrounding terrain, are all crafted from 18-karat white gold which has been hand-carved and set against a dark granite backdrop. Ulysse Nardin remains among a very few watchmakers to use Jaquemarts on the dial of its watch repeaters.
The watch has four gongs, each producing a different tone (Mi-Do-Re-Sol), sounding off on the hour when the repeater is activated (the hour sound is Sol and the minute sound is Mi).
All four gongs sound in three different sequences for the quarters:
1st quarter: Mi-Do-Re-Sol
2nd quarter: Mi-Do-Re-Sol/Sol-Re-Mi-Do
3rd quarter: Mi-Do-Re-Sol/Sol-Re-Mi-Do/Mi-Do-Re-Sol

Furthermore, the jaquemarts on the dial are gorgeously coordinated with the sound of the gongs, and they move to the minutes, quarters and hours in a life-like form.
The beating heart of the Ulysse Nardin Minute Repeater Hannibal watch is the in-house caliber UN-78 one-minute tourbillon which is decorated, angled and finished by hand. The impeccable mechanism is partially visible on the dial side.

Ulysse Nardin Minute Repeater Hannibal Watch Back
The manually wound movement is mounted on 36 jewels and preserves no less than 70 hours of power reserve when fully wound. From the rear, the view through the sapphire display case back allows the wearer to enjoy the inner beauty of the watch.
