Recently, Chopard has unveiled the new Chopard Mille Miglia GTS Power Control Watch where the GTS stands for Grand Turismo Sport. This newcomer is the first member of the brand’s new collection of timepieces for their flagship Mille Miglia line.
This is the first time that the chronometer and power-reserve Mille Miglia models are tooled with Chopard’s movement from the workshops of Fleurier Ebauches. The impeccable caliber 01.08-C is entirely developed, designed and manufactured in-house. The self-winding mechanism meets all the quality demands of the Mille Miglia line and it is a certified Chronometer by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). The mechanical movement is built on 40 jewels, has the frequency of 28,800 alternations per hour (4 Hz) and a 60-hour power reserve.
The new Chopard Mille Miglia GTS boasts an incredible racing spirit and masculine curves which are inspired by the classic cars that took part in the race between 1940 and 1957. This watch is created as the sophisticated instrument just like other Mille Miglia timepieces. The bezel of the Mille Mille GTS Power Control features a graduated black aluminium insert which accentuates its sporting nature.
Underneath the front sapphire glass lies a black dial which is a tribute to the aesthetics of vintage car dashboards. The dial comprises oversized numerals 6 and 12 which are coated in Superluminova and a date window which appears in the Mille Miglia red-arrow race logo at the 3 o’clock position. The date aperture is yet another nod to the numbers on the doors and bonnets of the competing cars. On the opposite side, at the 9 o’clock position there is a power-reserve indicator which evokes a petrol gauge typical for the 1950s.
Chopard has offered a stainless steel model and an 18-karat rose gold version of the new Mille Miglia GTS Power Control Watch. The first one is available with the rubber strap which also recalls the racing world and draws inspiration from the Dunlop tyres of classic 1960s cars, and for those of you which are more fond of bracelets, there is also a three-raw stainless steel bracelet as an option (their referent numbers are 168566-3001 and 158566-3001). The 18-karat rose gold model with the referent number 161296-5001 is attached to a black rubber strap. All models come with the same dimensions – 43mm in diameter and 11.43mm in thickness.
The watch is coated on both sides with glareproofed sapphire crystals and constructed to resist water pressure up to 100 meters (330 feet). The reverse side of the watch reveals exhibition case back with screws bearing the inscriptions “Mille Miglia” and “Brescia > Roma > Brescia”.
