A month before the watch exhibition Baselword 2014 will open its gate, Ulysse Nardin unveil their new limited edition model Perpetual Manufacture. This novelty boasts a movement with the most advanced perpetual calendar complication in the history of watchmaking.
Ulysse Nardin Perpetual Manufacture Watch is powered by the manufacture movement UN-32 that allows the date to be adjusted both forward and backward. The self-winding mechanism comes with official rating certificate (C.O.S.C) and it is capable to store enough energy to keep the watch ticking for about 48 hours when fully wound. The impeccable mechanism provides the usual set of functions (hours, minutes and seconds), as well as the second time zone, date, day, month and year. The movement is equipped with the rotor of 18-karat gold.
The perpetual calendar mechanism takes into account not only the months with 30 and 31 days, but also the 28 days of February and the return of February 29 every four years. Thus, it is tooled with a mechanical memory of 1,461 days. The first time when the new watch will require a manual adjustment is 2100 which would normally be a leap year but is an exception in the Gregorian calendar. In other words, the new watch can go without any manual adjustments for the next 86 years.
Day, date, month and year indications of the watch can be adjusted by turning the crown in both directions. Furthermore, the new Ulysse Nardin timepiece offers the second time zone. The hour hand can be easily set by using “+” and “-” push-pieces at 4 and 8 o’clock positions. The calendar functions synchronize automatically when the hour hand is changed, while the GMT hand with a vibrant red arrow can be used to point either the original home time or the second time zone.
The new Ulysse Nardin timepiece is crafted in celebration of infinity and therefore it features a reminder about its perpetuity on the dial with the symbol “∞”. There is a choice between a white or a black guilloche dial both featuring applied hour markers and skeletonized hour and minute hands with luminescent white substance. The central hand with a vivid red tip shows the second time zone. Its dial also comprises a big date which is shown in a double window at the 1 o’clock position.
The new Ulysse Nardin timepiece is available in a limited quantity comprising 250 pieces in rose gold (ref. 322-10) and 250 in platinum (ref. 329-10). Whichever model you choose, its dimensions are equal – the round case measures 43mm in diameter. The case is shielded with anti-reflective sapphire crystals and constructed to resist water pressure of up to 30 meters (about 100 feet). The new watch comes with a comfortable leather strap, fitted with a folding buckle.
