The independent Swiss watchmaker MCT Watches has developed its next model named Sequential Two – S200 which will be officially launched at the Baselworld 2014 watches and jewelry show. This newcomer is the brand’s first round timepiece. Interestingly, the new watch is equipped with the same movement as the original Sequential One from 2008 which was housed in a square case.
MCT Sequential Two S200 boasts the brand’s signature prism display. The beating heart of the watch is the in-house manufactured automatic-winding movement with an 18-karat gold micro-rotor which indicates hours using four modules comprised of five triangular prisms. It is hard to explain in a few words how the Sequential Two displays time works, but I will try.
The current hour is marked by an open aperture in a C-shaped arc that circles around the center of the dial. It is relief-engraved with “Manufacture Contemporaine du Temps” and rotates sequentially 90 degree counter-clockwise. The actual hour is shown by means of five prisms which rotate to display the correct number. The centrally positioned minute hand displays the minutes on a minute track that is surrounding the dial’s perimeter. This C-shaped arc rotates 90 degree anticlockwise, every hour, so its opening unveils the new hour. Thus, the hours have to be read from four positions on the dial: 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock position. On the Sequential One model, the rotating C-shape also functioned as the minute track, meaning the central minute hand did 60 minutes in 270 degrees (instead of 360 degrees).
The impeccable movement is assembled on the 85 jewels and it is capable to provide at least 40 hours of power reserve when fully wound. The mechanism consists of 507 components and it is visible through the sapphire crystal case back where you can admire the hand finished black bridges and plates with Côtes de Genève, as well as at the perlage and hand-beveled edges.
MCT will offer two versions of the Sequential Two S200 housed either in 18-karat rose gold (ref. RD45 S200 PG 01) or 18-karat white gold case (ref. RD45 S200 WG 01). The case measures 44.6mm in diameter and 14.5mm in thickness and it is shielded with double anti-reflective sapphire crystals on the front and with the sapphire crystal inset at the case back. Water resistance is assured down to 30 meters (approximately 100 feet). The elegant case consists of 43 parts and incorporates a screw-in crown adorned with the brand’s logo.
The MCT Sequential Two S200 is teamed with a double hand-stitched alligator leather strap with an anti-allergy inner lining, ending either with an 18-karat gold or titanium double folding clasp.
