Stemming from the flagship series that includes only watches with manufacture movements in limited editions, the new Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Seconde Mystérieuse (Mysterious Seconds) is an upcoming watch to behold. Its main trait is the linear mysterious seconds display, as its name suggests, while at its core beats the twelfth manufacture caliber by the watchmaker. The latest timepiece by the brand which is recognizable for its somewhere quirky design of products is set to be unveiled at the upcoming Baselworld 2013 event.

As it is mentioned and stated in the very name of the product, its most interesting characteristic is the presence of an unusual manner of seconds display. The separate seconds counter which is positioned at the lower part of the dial and which spreads on more than half of the dial consists of four linear segments that are dived to 15 second increments. While a minute passes, the seconds are shown alternating on the horizontal or the vertical scale. During the entire process, a blued seconds hand revolves while appearing to be suspended in air, hence the watch’s name.

The rest of openwork dial features an off-center counter at the top right segment of the face with an indication for hours and minutes. As for the remaining part of the face, it is cut away to show bridges with rhodium or ruthenium platinig, organized in a geometric pattern to create a modern and contemporary styling.

In the essence of the model is the twelfth in-house caliber by Maurice Lacroix – ML215 with 48 jewels. Operating at the lower frequency of 18,000 vph, it features sanded finish and a Cotes de Geneve pattern on the rotor. The movement supports a power reserve that lasts for 50 hours. It displays just hour, minutes and seconds.

There are two different versions of the product from the brand’s most exclusive series. The Swiss brand with panache for peculiar looking timepieces (as it was the case with the Roue Carrée Seconde), made the new watch in a silver-colored steel or black PVD-coated casing. The first watch likewise has a silver styled face and a seconds scale, as well as a black alligator strap. On the other, hand, the second version with a black face sports a white second scale and a black leather strap.
