By presenting an original way of displaying the second time zone, Jacob & Co’s novelty deserved to be reviewed along with other interesting models that we had a chance to see at the Baselword 2013 watch show. Powered by a mechanical movement, Epic SF 24 watch comes in three variations, showing robust, extravagant cases either made of white gold, pink gold or grade 5 titanium. For its worldwide campaign that will promote these striking timepieces, the famous watch and jewelry maker signed a contract with one of the world’s most popular athletes, a Portuguese soccer star, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Although one can argue about the design of this robust watch, a cool display placed at the top of its case can be a pretty good reason for having it on the wrist. Designed to recall airport display boards, this second time zone indicator shows names of the cities which mechanically change one after the other along with accurate hour indications. At its left side, there is a push-button for changing the names of the cities. The display is covered with the curved sapphire glass and its mechanical parts can be seen from apertures on both sides. This is definitely a great idea for a GMT watch, since it brings together the most important feature for the world travelers and a characteristic dashboard that we used to see at airports all around the world.

The nicely polished case has the diameter of 45 mm. The version with a titanium case and a matching dial seems like the best looking one. The design of the dial is pretty strange. Although there are several elements whose purpose is hard to define, I like the part with highly legible, applied hour numerals and markers. It goes perfectly with an elegant black leather strap, decorated with white stitching. At the case-back, there is a nicely engraved world map, covered with the brand’s logo and surrounded by cites’ names and their time zones.
