The famous Swiss watch manufacturer has shaken up the visitors of the Baselworld 2013, by introducing its new Masterpiece creation, which is, besides all its uniqueness, also a hand-wound tourbillon watch with the highest power-reserve in the world. Another very special fact about “La Ferrari” is a number of its components that make it the most complex Hublot’s timepiece so far. As its name clearly suggests, this groundbreaking novelty is dedicated to “La Ferrari” and perfectly evokes the famous brand’s car in both technical and design terms.
I have to admit that I would not be 100 percent sure what this futuristic, high-tech gadget represents, if I just saw its photo without bringing in the Hublot’s name. Of course, this should be a great compliment for the brand that constantly tries to challenge its creative heights. So far, this is definitely the most unconventional, avant-garde model in the Swiss brand’s range, even considering watches from its Masterpiece Collection, which suppose to break the limits of the high-end watchmaking.
Limited to 50 pieces, the MP-05 “LaFerrari” is completely designed and developed by the Hublot Manufacture engineers and watchmakers. It houses the highly complex mechanism built of 637 components, including 11 series-coupled barrels, which ensures the world’s highest power-reserve for a hand-winding tourbillon movement which goes up to 50 days when the watch is fully wound!
Supporting each other, barrels are arranged in a line just like a spinal column. On its right side, visible through a sapphire crystal glass which is nicely curved in a racing car style, there are displays indicating hour and minutes via anodised black aluminium cylinders. On the left side, there is a cylinder that shows the power-reserve. To recall the Ferrari’s red signature, reinforcing bars positioned on each side of these indicators comes in anodised red aluminium.
Each numeral is treated with white SuperLuminova to ensure great readability. Finally, there is the small seconds indicated via aluminium cylinder, fastened onto the suspended Tourbillon cage with the pretty large diameter of 14.50 mm. The wearer of this watch can also enjoy this high-end mechanism through a sapphire crystal case-back.
Likewise inspired with the line of Ferrari car, a black PVD titanium case comes with a truly unique shape, incorporating an ergonomic time-setting crown under the case, as well as an invisible winding crown covered with titanium and carbon inserts. The striking look of the new Masterpiece MP-05 “La Ferrari” watch is completed with a sporty rubber strap featuring a folding buckle in black PVD titanium.
