The Swatch-owned watchmaker Harry Winston has prepared a new piece from the Historie de Tourbillon lineage which will be officially presented at the upcoming Baselworld show. It is yet another impressive timekeeper by the Swiss brand which features a tri-axial tourbillon movement. This means that the mechanism includes three tourbillon carriages rotating at different rates. As the manufacturer made sure, the complication stands out visually on the lower section of the watch’s three dimensional face. Naturally, the watches encased in the package made of the alloy of white gold and the brand’s trademark zalium.
At the essence of Harry Winsoton’s Historie de Tourbillon timekeeper is proprietary manually-wound HW4501 caliber. Comprised of 345 parts in total, the 59 jeweled movement features the tourbillon complication. Just for this mechanism, the watchmaker used 134 components which together weigh 1.57 grams.
Due to the rapid rotating twin barrels in series and one of the barrels being supplied with a slipping spring (used to remove excessive tension), the hand-wound movement has a power reserve of 50 hours. The overall modern appearance of the timekeeper is paired with the use of quality materials for the watch’s beating heart. For example, the main plate of the caliber is constructed from micro-blasted and hand-chamfered titanium with PVD coated bridges, while the carriage bridge is made of polished gold Utilizing variable inertia balance with precisely 18 adjustment screws, the movement oscillates at the frequency of 3 Hz. Because of the complexity of the caliber, it has quite a notable size, with the diameter of 40 mm and the thickness of 17.3 mm.
As it has been said, the most interesting characteristic of the watch is the tourbillon complication with three cages and each of them rotate at the different rate. While the inner turns every 45 seconds, the intermediate completes a revolution in 75 seconds. The outer of thee tourbillons finishes a turn every 300 seconds, as it is indicated on the bottom of the dial. Thanks to the triple tourbillon feature, the timekeeper is expected to provide an enhanced protection from harmful effects of gravity.
Harry Winston Histoire de Tourbillon 4 timekeeper has a 47 mm wide case made from 18K polished white gold. Featuring the thickness of 21.7 mm, the case includes case band, lugs, arches and the tourbillon bezel made from zalium with DLC coating (zalium is Harry Winson’s patented alloy made of aluminum and zirconium. The three dimensional dial is protected with a sapphire crystal with a prominent domed section above the tourbillon. It has a black gold finish, as well as black flange and appliqués, and displays hours and minutes at the off-center counter. There is also a small seconds indication as well as the scale which shows the remaining power reserve. At the center of each of the counters, there is a satin-brushed segment, while the indications include black applied markings on the silver backrground. Finally, the attachment is a hand-sewn black alligator strap with a double ardillon buckle made from 18 K white gold. Harry Winston Histoire de Tourbillon 4 watch will be launched in a very exclusive edition which consists of just 20 pieces.
