Chronoswiss has revealed one of the newcomers which will be presented at the Baselworld 2013 event whose opening is scheduled for April 25. New Timemaster Chronograph GMT S-RAY 007 watch is a pilot timekeeper with the adequate design and features such as an oversized and fluted pilot’s crown, the second time zone and a chronograph. Named after the amphibious aircraft Donier S-RAY 007, this 180 piece limited edition timekeeper is the result of the brand’s collaboration with Iren Donier who designed the plane.
The counterparty in the partnership that led to this restricted series pilot’s watch are Eva and Oliver Ebstein. The married couple of entrepreneurs from Switzerland bought the company from its founder, the legendary watchmaker, Gerd-Rüdiger Lang, about a year ago. Since the Ebsteins who did not have any prior experience in the watchmaking industry took over the brand (Lang did however stayed connected with the company he built in the form of an advisor), the horological community has been wondering about the new direction of the watchmaker. For this reason, the new pilot’s watch is even more interesting since it can be seen as one of the harbingers of the path that the new leadership has chosen, at least when this particular type of watches is concerned.
Timemaster Chronograph GMT S-RAY 007 watch comes in a round steel case with black DLC coating. The brushed and polished thick housing has the diameter of 44 mm and the height of 16.25 and is comprised of 49 parts. Its gray and black face with the motifs of the horizon is guarded with a domed anti-reflective sapphire, surrounded by a rotating bezel with hour markings in two hour increments for different time zones. The dial further includes sword-shaped hour and minute hands, the central second hand with a crescent shaped counterweight, as well as a red hand with a skeleton tip which is used to indicate the time in GMT or another preset second time zone.
Being a timepiece with an aeronautical inspiration, it is not surprising that new Chronoswiss Timemaster includes a chronograph complication which is in this instance made with two counters (30-minute and 12-hour dials). Since its caliber Chronoswiss C. 754 (base movement ETA 7750) runs on the frequency of 28,800 vph, the precision of the chrono feature is within 1/8th of a second. The caliber with the automatic winding features a power reserve two hours shy of two days (46 hours). Decorated with Cotes de Geneva pattern, the movement can be seen through the sapphire case back. Besides, the watch is equipped with Incablock shock resistance system and made in order to be able to withstand water pressure up to 100 meters. The attachment of choice is a black rubber band. Finally, it should be said that the timekeeper comes in an exclusive box and paired with the model of the aircraft it is named after – Donier S-RAY 007.
