The Chopard Classic Racing collection has been enriched with three amazing timepieces from superfast line that recalls motorsports at every turn. The Superfast Auto, Chrono and Power Control watches which have been presented at Baselworld 2013 are the very first models in this collection to be equipped with movements completely designed, developed and assembled in-house, in the Fleurier Ebauches workshops.
These newcomers unite the thrill of racing with the horological values. They are sporty, powerful and sophisticated. Each of them features a dial that echoes the racing theme. Anthracite vertical lines run down the black dial surface as an engine’s cooling fins. This cooling motif continues on the case’s side, as well as on the case back where the parallel lines cover the open worked movement. Each timepiece is protected with glare-proofed scratch-resistant sapphire crystals.
The New Superfast Models Herald a New Era for Chopard
The Superfast Automatic houses a little bit smaller case than its companions, having 41mm in diameter. Its stainless steel case is constructed to resist water pressure up to 100 meters (circa 330 feet). With two other novelties, this model shares the same water resistance, as well as a chapter ring with numerals. Very nice details on their bezels are eight Allen screws which recall the lugs adorning wheel rims, reminding us of quick tire changes in the pits.
The watch is powered with Chopard Caliber 01.01-M mechanical movement that provides full 60 hours of power reserve. The self-winding mechanism is chronometer-certified by the COSC and it displays hours, minutes, seconds and a date via an aperture placed at the 6 o’clock position.
The Superfast Power Control displays and Superfast Chrono are housed in larger cases with diameters of 45mm. The first one is equipped with the exceptional in-house designed, developed and manufactured Caliber 01.02-M that provides a range of functions, including hours, minutes, small seconds, as well as date and power reserve functionality.
The COSC certified self-winding movement features bridges with a see-through engine finish and a circular-grained main plate. The mechanism oscillates at the rapid frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) and consists of 240 parts.
A white-on-black date window is situated at the 3 o’clock position, while on the opposite side, at the 9 o’clock position there is a sector-type power reserve indicator. A small seconds counter is placed at the 6 o’clock position.
The beating heart of the Superfast Chrono is caliber 03.05-M self-winding movement with a column wheel (with four spokes and micro-regulator with screws) visible through a small window. The mechanical movement powers the sweep seconds hand to match the tachymeter scale engraved on the bezel and provides a fly back functionality. The in-house made movement consists of 310 individual parts and features bridges with the see-through engine finish and the circular-grained main plate.
Two chronograph counters are situated at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock position and they measure time up to 30 minutes and 12 hours. A small-seconds sub-dial is set at the 6 o’clock position and it perfectly balances with the bold numeral 12 at the top of the dial. There is also a window-type date aperture displayed between 4 and 5 o’clock positions.
The pushers of the new wristwatches are coated in rubber. Further, the steering wheel logo sits on o top of the rubber-molded steel crown. The new Superfast models are teamed with comfortable rubber straps featuring steel folding clasps for the great feel on the wearers’ wrists. With these novelties, Chopard definitely lays a new milestone in its rich history.
