This year in Basel, Chopard presented one of its most complicated L.U.C watches. The new L.U.C Perpetual T timepiece features a perpetual calendar and a tourbillon, and it has an outstanding power reserve of more than a week. This newcomer is definitely Chopard’s flagship at Baselworld 2013. The Perpetual T epitomizes the highest standards integral to the legacy of the company’s founder, Louis-Ulysse Chopard.
This watch is entirely made in-house by Chopard. The L.U.C Caliber 02.15-L provides the usual set of functions (hour, minute and seconds) with additional date function and perpetual calendar. This officially certified chronometer has a power reserve that can last full nine days. Its COSC and Poinçon de Genève certification testify to the high standards governing the brand’s production of its prestigious timepieces.
The mechanism features four barrels and it has the Geneva Seal. Like the other top-end L.U.C timepieces it is adorably finished. The plates are circular-grained, the screws are polished, the bridges are beveled and encrusted with a vertical Côtes de Genève motif and the jewels are set into gold chatons. All these components are gently polished and smoothed down by hand.
The Multiple Indications on the Perfectly Legible Dial
A silver-plated dial is full of information and details. It is encrusted with a hand-cut guilloché motif from the large date window to the applied Roman numerals which mark the hours.
A large twin-aperture date window is on the foreground, below the 12 o’clock position, while the tourbillon regulator with the brand’s distinctive shuriken-shaped tourbillon cage is situated on the opposite side, at the 6 o’clock position. The counter located at the 9 o’clock position shows the day of the week, and day and night display, whilst the sub-dial that indicates the leap year and month is situated at the 3 o’clock position.
Chopard L.U.C Perpetual T watch is housed in an elegant case crafted from rose gold. The round case measures 43mm in diameter and 14.9mm in thickness and although it is quite huge, it looks great on an average-sized wrist.
The case is shielded with antireflective sapphire glass and provides water resistance of up to 30 meters (about 100 feet). For the best comfort of the wearer, the case is teamed with a black alligator leather strap, ending with a rose gold pin buckle.
The new Chopard watch is made to be admired and worn. Its inner beauty can be seen through a transparent sapphire crystal case back. On the back side of the watch there is also a power-reserve indicator.
