One of the three new timekeepers which celebrate the ten years worth cooperation between Breitling and Bentley is Bentley B06 which premiers the new in-house caliber of the same name (B06). The proprietary developed and constructed movement includes a central chrono hand which allows twice the precision than it is customary for a movement with the 4 Hz frequency. Moreover, the new timekeeper includes a new tachometric scale and a neat balance wheel visible through the case back. The automotive inspired watch with a host of accents that pays tribute to Bentley racing cars comes in a quite large round housing which is available in both steel and red gold.
The 30-seconds chronograph solution used for Bentley B06 is based on the brand’s patent from the 1920s which has recently been used on few models, some of which we have previously reviewed (Breitling for Bentley GMT Midnight Carbon and Breitling for Bentley GMT V8). However, these watches were made from ETA made blank movement, while the new model uses Breitling B01 Caliber as its base. The overall concept is quite simple and it doubles the chrono accuracy up to 1/8th of a second.
Breitling for Bentley B06 likewise includes another patented feature – its variable tachometer. By using the rotating bezel of the timepiece, its wearer is able to calculate average speed. Unlike the common tachymetric scales that help only when the interval does not exceed 60 seconds, the new tachometer designed by Breitling can be used regardless of the elapsed time, the covered distance or the reached speed.
Speaking about the caliber used, it is likewise important to note that it has 47 jewels and secures a power storage of over 70 hours. Needless to say, it is certified as chronometer by COSC, while its only other supported feature is a date display.
As it is common with the pieces Breitling makes for Bentley, the new timekeeper includes a lot of details that visually resemble the ones on a Bentley car – notably its knurled bezel which looks like a radiator grill of the racing car by the renowned British brand. This motif is once again used on the skeletonized dial which offers looks to the in-house caliber. The exhibition case back is even more interesting, since it shows an awesomely sculpted oscillating wheel that resembles the shape of a wheel rim.
The quite substantial housing with the diameter of 49 mm can be made from stainless steel or 18K red gold, but is in both cases water resistant to 100 meters. It is coupled with a rotating pinion bezel with circular slide rule. While the front of the watch includes a cambered sapphire crystal with double glare-proof treatment, the back has a transparent section made from the same material. Available dial colors are Royal Ebony and Silver Storm shades, whereas the choice of wristlets includes a leather or a crocodile leather strap in several different colors, as well as a steel Speed bracelet. Along with other novelties by the Swiss watchmaker, Breitling for Bentley B06 will be unveiled at Baselworld 2013.
