The Italian watchmaker U-Boat has just announced the release of two new watch models U-42 GMT and “B and B” that will be revealed next month during the Baselworld 2012 event. The famous Italian company for the seventh year in a row will present its novelties in this prestigious event for the watch industry.
Both models are further evolutions of the original U-42 watch which was specifically released in 1942 for the Italian Navy.
The new U-42 GMT timepiece features a round case crafted from titanium. Its massive case has the diameter of 53 mm. The case back, as well as its bezel is made also of titanium. This model, like all U-Boat watches, has a large crown wheel set on the left side of the case. The case is protected with a sapphire crystal with an antireflective coating and allows amazing 300 meters (1,000 feet) of water resistance without any trouble for the mechanism.

This newcomer is equipped with an automatic movement with full 48 hours of power reserve. This is the first time that the Italian manufacturer offers a GMT caliber in the U-42 model. The advanced mechanism is modified and personalized specifically for U-Boat models. The 25 jewels movement oscillates at the frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides the usual functions of hour, minute and second, as well as 3 time zones and a date function.
Underneath the front sapphire glass, there is a black dial with bronze-colored hands, indices and bold Arabic numerals 4, 8 and 12. Its hands are made of brass. A small white-on-black date window is situated at the 9 o’clock position.
The U-Boat’s U-42 GMT timepiece comes with a brown leather strap with a titanium buckle and it is produced in limited quantity of only 300 pieces.
The second novelty “B and B” is named for its gorgeous combination of solid Bronze and Black IP treated Titanium. This newcomer features a large, round case crafted from titanium which measures 53 mm in diameter. This is the first U-Boat watch that features bronze which has been used for the bezel studs (except the 12 o’clock pip which is made of ceramic), the crown winding mechanism and the tongue of the buckle. The front side of the case is shielded with a sapphire crystal with an antireflective coating. The case is constructed to resist deep diving up to 300 meters (1,000 feet) below water surface, which means it can be worn while swimming and diving. The masculine case incorporates a rotating bi-directional bezel, equipped with a locking system with a lever on the right side of the case. The case back is fixed on the case with 6 hexagonal screws for maximum protection.
