After the series of beautiful creations, inspired with the Planet Earth and Space, Magellan Watch prepared the new masterpiece to be officially presented at the upcoming Baselworld 2012 watch and jewelry show. With the Magelluna, we are invited to travel into space, discovering the Moon that is depicted amazingly realistic on the watch dial. Completely produced and painted by hand, each Magelluna watch is a truly unique piece of art.
Very gifted craftsmen, from the renowned Swiss watchmaking region, have united their skills in order to create distinctive, aesthetically pleasing watches that combine hi-end components with inspiring background stories. The new brand was born in 2000 and from this point of view, we can say it was a big refreshment on the watchmaking market. Named after Ferdinand Magellan (1479-1521), a famous navigator and explorer, whose expedition completed the first circumnavigation of the Earth, Magellan Watch and its original concept nicely evoke the years of great discoveries. The worldwide discovery of the brand’s remarkable timepieces is yet to come.
Just like all previous Magellan’s models, the Magelluna also comes with distinctive features that make the brand so authentic and different from others. At the first place, it is the perfect roundness of the watch case, which is possible since the winding and time-setting crown got the unusual position. Being integrated into the dial, at the 3 o’clock position, it is accessible only from the case-back. Besides, in order to preserve the unique aesthetic effect, the Swiss manufacturer made bracelet lugs invisible.
However, the true highlight of this and every other Magellan’s timepiece is a three-dimensional dial, followed by the unique shape of its hands which thanks to a system of nested guiding pipes go smoothly with its surface (that is a 32 mm Moon in this particular case). It is crafted in galvanic grey steel and features laser engraved roman figures at the other rim. Compared to other timepieces from the collection, the Magelluna represents a significant technological step forward, featuring a convex sapphire crystal which is no longer fixed to the case. Instead, it is placed on the bezel that is screwed in the case.
The case of Magelluna watch is made of stainless steel that comes with a special PVD/CVD blackening treatment. Considering this, a black rubber strap with a pushpiece-operated double folding clasp seams like the perfect match. The case is understandably robust, with the diameter of 43.5 mm and the height of 19 mm. The specific shape of the watch body required the development of a special module for an ETA 2892 self-winding movement base.
For those who still have not discovered this young brand, the Magelluna will be a nice surprise. Others will simply find the new proof that strongly testifies about the great quality of Magellan Watch.
