Apart from the smaller version of Chronomat GMT timepiece that we already presented, Breitling has prepared more novelties for the upcoming Baselworld 2012 show. So far, it was announced that the most important event in the world of watchmaking will be the venue where the Swiss company intends to present Bentley GMT V8. It is another fine watch that was created as a part of the prestigious companies, one that creates supreme and luxurious cars, and the other one that uses the same approach in manufacture of timepieces. The new Breitling’s model was made to mark the launch of Bentley’s new model, Continental GT V8.
The timepiece by Breitling that was made to celebrate the new car by the British iconic car manufacture, has been created in the limited edition that consists of 250 pieces. Most of the specifications and features are exactly the same as the ones in regular Bentley GMT chronos, and the changes are more of aesthetic nature. The first detail that pops out as soon as you look at the watch is the inner red metallic bezel with city names that stand in contrast to the black dial. It is the trait that gives the new timepiece a sporty overall style. Another characteristic that contributes to the racing theme is the use of the asymmetrical lugs that are utilized to connect the round case of the watch to the bracelet. The future owner of Breitling Bentley GMT V8 will be able to choose among a steel bracelet and a rubber strap that was made especially for the model.
Multiple Time Zone Display
As the GMT part of the name suggests, the watch allows its wearer to tell the time in various time zones. The second time zone is available due to the inclusion of a GMT hand that makes a complete rotation every 24 hours (that also allows the wearer to tell whether it is night or day in that time zone which is very important to know in order to avoid problems while communicating with people, especially if it is business related). Despite its name “GMT hand”, it is not used only to show the time in GMT time zone. It can be moved forward or back in the increments of one-hour and set to a specific time zone. Furthermore, GMT hand can be used in the combination with a bi-directional rotating bezel in order to tell the time in each of 24 major cities that are inscribed on the bezel. It is important to note that the watch also has a date display which is located on the bottom of the dial, inside the 6-hour chrono sub-dial.
30-Second Chronograph
Another interesting feature of the new Breitling for Bentley timepiece is the inclusion of a 30-second chronograph. It means that a sweeping second hand completes a full rotation during the period of half of a minute. This is significant because it enables the chrono feature of the watch to be precise up to 1/8th of a second. Breitling Bentley GMT V8 has such an accurate chrono feature thanks to its Calibre 47B mechanism. It is a mechanical self-winding movement that is chronometer-certified by the COSC. Calibre 47B includes 38 jewels, runs on the high frequency of 4 Hz (or 28,800 vibrations per hour), and is supplied with a power reserve of 48 hours.
The new model of Breitling that is set to be unveiled in Basel in March is fitted in a very large polished stainless steel housing, with no less than 49 mm in diameter. Its face is protected with a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. As it is revealed by the manufacturer, the timepiece is able to withstand water pressure up to 100 meters below the surface. Watches from the limited edition of Breitling Bentley GMT V8 will be sold at the price of $10,590.
