Specialized in creating upscale, hand-made timepieces, Alexander Shorokhoff Watch Manufactory has expended its innovative Avantgarde Collection, with three new models. Highlighted by striking figures „60“, unusually arranged on their dials to reflect the era of the sixties, these watches can immediately be recognized by the creative design concept, so characteristic for this young brand. The most avant-garde among them, a distinctive, colorful Miss Avantgarde Automatic, a sporty and elegant New Portuguese Chronograph and a stylish, masculine Watch Dandy are going to be revealed at the upcoming Baselworld 2012 watch and jewelry show.
This year, Alexander Shorokhoff is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Watch Manufactory. This German watch manufacturer and designer with Russian roots has become famous by innovative and creative designs and the finest watchmaking skills. With three new models from the Avantgarde Collection, he took the brand to the next level of quality.
The highlight of the 2012 edition is a cheeky Miss Avantgarde watch that pays homage to Gaudi and Hundertwasser, Kandinsky and Malevich. When I first saw this unusual creation, I simply could not stop looking at its vivid dial. And after considerable time spent on analyzing its parts and their meanings, the design of the dial remains a mystery to me, but I love it. It is artistic, so unconventional and childishly fun, and despite the profusion of colors and forms, Alexander Shorokhov has outlined it clearly.
The symbol of the entire collection, the dominant figure “60” is playfully moved to the left, along with the arrow that points the place where the figure belongs. Inside the hypnotizing spiral pattern, at the 6 o’clock position, there is a round date aperture.
The extremely large case for a ladies’ timepiece, with the diameter of 39 mm, indicates once again that this is not a mainstream watch and that only those women with high self-confidence and distinctive style, will choose to wear it. Besides the over-sized diameter, the case is just 9 mm thick, so it should nicely fit a lady’s wrist. Made of stainless steel that is beautifully polished to emphasize the extraordinary dial, the case matches a dark brown leather strap.
Inside the Miss Avantgarde watch, there is a Caliber 2824.AS self-winding movement. This carefully re-worked, refined and partially hand engraved mechanism is revealed through the sapphire crystal case-back. The watch is water-resistant up to 50 meters (165 feet) and it is created in the limited series of 500 pieces.
New Portuguese Chronograph
Inspired by the beautiful country, its inhabitants and the great will for a new start, Alexander Shorokhov designed this elegant chronograph model and gave it an interesting name – “New Portuguese”. The watch with a clear, structured design, a distinctive dial pattern and a bold sporty look represents a modern, independent reinterpretation of the legendary “Portugieser“ chronograph, from the early 1970s.
The perfectly guilloched silver pattern of the dial features raised, hand-applied Arabic numerals, shaped with an exceptional style. The striking number “60” as the main element of the AVANTGARDE style stands at the 12 o’clock position. Sparkling ultra navy blue hour and minute hands look great on the dial. Two chronograph sub-dials that count 30 minutes and 60 seconds, take 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions, while the square date window is located at the 6 o’clock position.
A masculine stainless steel case with the diameter of 43.5 mm, beautifully combines brushed and polished surfaces, testifying about the brand’s exceptional craftsmanship. It incorporates a tiny round bezel, an over-sized winding crown with the stamped logo and chronograph pushers, all crafted in solid steel. The New Portuguese Chronograph is available with an elegant black leather strap and it is water-proof up to 50 meters (165 feet).
Anti-reflective stainless steel glass protects the timepiece on both sides, completely exposing a high-quality self-winding mechanism from the back-side. It is a Caliber 3133.AS chronograph mechanism with a refined balance bridge and high gloss, hand engraved and gold plated bridges. The second available version is powered with a Dubois Depraz Caliber 2030.DD automatic chrono movement, with a hand engraved rotor.
Striking Elegance of the Watch Dandy
In order to give modern gentlemen a distinctive fashion accessory, Alexander Shorokhov created this masculine, stylish timepiece with a striking dial. The interesting black pattern of the dial features the combination of silver and golden colored elements, which definitely is not my cup of tea, but there is no doubt that the watch will find its costumers. Curved, silver graphic elements are raised on the dial, incorporating the round date aperture at the 6 o’clock position. Both the number “60” and the hands are stressed with golden color. The black surface perfectly matches an elegant leather strap.
The stainless steel case of the Watch Dandy has the diameter of 43.5 mm and it combines polished and brushed finishes as nice aesthetic details. The case-back is engraved and fixed with seven screws, protecting the inner-work. The watch is powered with a Calibre 2824.AS self-winding mechanism that incorporates a refined hand-engraved rotor. This model is also produced in the Limited Edition of just 168 pieces.
