At the inaugural Watches & Wonders salon in Hong Kong, the prestigious Swiss watchmaker presented its latest novelty, a Millenary Minute Repeater, powered by an innovative mechanism. This technological masterpiece is highly valuable not only because it features the minute repeater complication, but also because of its in-house escapement and an atypical construction of the regulating organ, composed of two balance springs, providing high accuracy, long-term stability and shock resistance, while at the same time reducing the loss of power. Besides its technical perfection, the new timepiece from the famous Millenary Collection looks truly amazing, with its dynamic three-dimensional architecture, powerful pink gold case and a unique interface.
This extraordinary timepiece brings together the oldest watch complication that dates back to the 15th century and the 21st century architecture of the robust, 18 karat pink gold case with the diameter of 47 mm. This beautifully polished and shaped case houses a true masterpiece, new 2928 Calibre hand-winding movement, completely developed and produced by Audemars Piguet. First that we need to mention is the innovative escapement that combines the reliability of a traditional, Swiss lever escapement with high efficiency of a direct impulse escapement, ensuring the optimal energy transmission. Besides, AP’s escapement does not require the use of lubricants, and finally, it increases precision and stability of the mechanism.
Another advanced feature that comes with the new mechanism is the opposite-facing double spring system that provides numerous advantages. Thanks to two barrels, the fully wound mechanism works up to seven days. The third barrel, which is two-and-a-half times larger than normal, stores the energy for the minute repeater mechanism. The balance spring beats at the frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. Thanks to a balance-stop system, accurate time-setting is guaranteed, while a security device which is the part of the new winding system prevents from eventual damages.
The stunning design of the interface provides a wearer to observe the mechanism with hand-beveled edges and interior angles, as well as the overall galvanic treatment. For the complete impression, there is a sapphire crystal case-back. On the dial side, you can also see a ‘blued’ gong of the minute repeater which matches the color of hour, minute and small seconds hands. A white enamel dial is nicely off-centered, providing the unique angle of showing time. It is decorated by stylish Roman numerals in different sizes. A small-seconds sub-dial is cut in the larger display which is another nice aesthetic detail. New Millenary Minute Repeater watch is equipped with an elegant brown leather strap that perfectly matches the color of the golden case.
