Bulova Corporation has proudly announced Virgin’s founder sir Richard Branson as the new ambassador for its Accutron line of products. Famous entrepreneur and adventurer, was officially unveiled as a new face of Bulova Watches at exclusive cocktail party at Baselworld 2011 watch show.
Accutron watches are known as the first fully electronic watches. Introduction of this collection completely changed timekeeping, because Bulova Accutron included the most precise mechanism ever devised. Renowned for its accuracy, Bulova Accutron watches were used by NASA, in no less than 46 space program missions. Back in the 1960s, Bulova Corporation was involved in a pretty heated rivalry with Omega Watches to be the first timepiece on the moon.
Bulova ultimately lost to Omega and the “Moon Watch” (Omega Speedmaster Proffesional) was selected. However, all time-keeping mechanisms in the spacecraft on that mission were Bulova Accutron watches, with tuning fork movements.
Fifty years since the introduction of the first Accutron model, Bulova constructed Anniversary limited edition of wristwatches, which feature landmark turning fork movement and exhibition case of the acclaimed Bulova Accutron Spaceview watches. Each superbly crafted model of this edition, which consists of just 1,000 pieces, is individually numbered and sold in distinctive wood and glass display case.
In 2008, the world largest watchmakers Citizen bought the Bulowa Watch Company.
